Privacy and confidentiality

Based on the ethical principles and standards that Infinity adheres to and the Australian laws we uphold, we keep your information confidential and protect your privacy. The only limit to this commitment is in exceptional circumstances dictated by Australian law.

Privacy

This policy addresses the legal obligations regarding privacy, including the collection, use, disclosure, storage, security and disposal of your personal information, health information and sensitive information. This policy recognises all ongoing and occasional responsibilities with regards to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic), the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and the My Health Records Act 2012 (Cth). We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as well as the Health Privacy Principles (Victoria) (‘HPP’).
 

Types of data and collection

If the information that is collected could identify you, then that information is defined under the law as personal. As with other quality support services (in-person or online), utilising this service involves the collection of some personal information. You are entitled to be informed of these processes and also to decline the provision of your data. 

Infinity will not request any information beyond that which is required to provide the requested service in a safe and ethical manner. We collect this personal information through the booking form, where we request you fill in your name, your phone number and your email (to send your receipt of payment) and your address which would we would never use, except in relation to the unlikely event of an emergency. As described above, all this information is protected according to principles of confidentiality. 


Upon booking you will be required to make payment for your upcoming session, at which time card number, etcetera will be requested. All data that you provide is processed and protected in a manner consistent with Australian law. 

Infinity website uses cookies and similar technologies for stability, security, functionality and performance. These are the same processes that occur automatically on other webpages you view on the internet. Third parties (people other than you and me), such as the company involved in the payment process, will also utilise cookies and similar technologies.

We will also protect personal information that we have received through any channel from a third party and take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of this.

Security/Storage of Personal Information

Your personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure, consistent with Australian law.  Security software is utilised in the protection of  infinity client data, and processes applied to safeguard hardware security. Serious consideration is applied regarding the nomination of authorised third parties (such as payment processing).

Access to your Information

You may access the your personal information and update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your personal information, please make contact with Infinity in writing using the following email address: contact@infinityphonecounselling.com.au. Infinity will not charge fees regarding your access request. In order to protect your personal information, we may require identification from you before release.

Maintaining the Quality of your Information

The quality of data may be judged on how accurate, complete and up-to-date it is. All reasonable steps will be taken to make sure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. If you find that the information we have is not up-to-date or is inaccurate, please advise so our records can be updated to ensure the continued delivery of high quality services.

Confidentiality

This policy also addresses confidentiality. Confidentiality means that Infinity will protect anything you have shared in a telephone session, as well as your name and use of our service. This commitment is linked to Infinity's broader commitment to ethical professional practice. To occupy a support role with Infinity requires a detailed working knowledge of ethics in the therapeutic/clinical setting in Australia and commitment to actively working to maintain competency in this area. 

At your request and with written consent, infinity can share with a third party.

 

However, there are very specific and exceptional circumstances where Infinity must share information. These are the case of;

​​​

            a) subpoena by an Australian court of law, in relation to a legal case  involving  a client. 

           b) an actual emergency or crisis event, involving threats to  immediate safety.
